Questions and answers

Before you book

Can you test for perimenopause?

In women over 45, diagnosis usually uses symptoms and menstrual changes. A single hormone result is unreliable because levels fluctuate. Your doctor may investigate other causes or test at a younger age.

What are hormone blood tests used for in women?

They can help investigate specific clinical questions. Your age, menstrual history, medicines and symptoms determine which tests are appropriate. A routine panel cannot explain every symptom.

Does a consultation price include blood testing?

Only an explicit pathology charge or combined assessment establishes a complete total here. A referral included in the consultation does not establish that the laboratory is free.

Can I start with my regular GP?

Yes. Ask for an appointment long enough to discuss your symptoms, cycle and relevant health history. Your GP can consider investigations or referral where needed.

Where can I find free resources for menopause?

Jean Hailes and the Australasian Menopause Society publish patient information and symptom resources. The source list below links to the material checked for this section.
